Clinical Social Worker, LCSW
Erica is a native of Hampton Roads, VA and is the daughter of a US Navy Veteran. Being raised in this area afforded Erica the opportunity to live, learn, and work beside many military individuals and families in both personal and professional capacities. Erica earned a BA in psychology from Mary Baldwin University and upon graduating from this program began working in the field of sexual trauma as a Crisis Counselor. In this role, she accompanied survivors of sexual assault to forensic exams and provided them with support and resources. She then earned an MSW from Norfolk State University, completing her clinical training at the Hampton VA Medical Center serving in both the Women's Clinic/Military Sexual Trauma program and Primary Care Mental Health. Working this closely with veterans anchored her passion for serving military members impacted by trauma and has been a personal and professional passion ever since. Erica's exposure to the SOF community stems a familial connection who served a role in USN Special Projects in addition to having seen many clients from the SOF community through her current role as the Lead clinician at the PTSD Clinic at the Hampton VAMC. Erica is aware of the unique challenges, culture, and sensitive nature of working within this population. She seeks to build trust with members of the SOF community and does so through her warmth, candor, and value of transparency. She can best be described as a McDonald's Sprite...she is very sweet and bubbly...and can be a bit spicy. Erica uses a variety of evidence-based practices to include Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Internal Family Systems (IFS). She particularly enjoys working with clients within the SOF/intelligence communities, "high-achievers", first responders, survivors of sexual trauma, and individuals with early childhood trauma. When not at the VAMC, Erica maintains an intentionally small, curated, and attentive private practice which is offered virtually or potentially walk & talk psychotherapy if clients are also local.
