Dr Leah Gause

Psychologist, PsyD, LP

Dr. Leah Gause is a clinical psychologist with nearly 15 years of experience in psychological research, assessment, and psychotherapy practice within the veteran and active duty military population. She has spent the majority of her career within the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) system, with emphasis and specialization in physical medicine and rehabilitation, working with individuals and families affected by neurologic injuries and illnesses (e.g., traumatic brain injury) and the physical and psychological conditions that come alongside. Dr. Gause has spent the latter half of her career developing and directing an interdisciplinary rehab program (one of five within the entire VA system) for Special Operations Forces personnel and their support systems. She has developed competency in understanding SOF culture and has made it her mission to demystify psychology and make it accessible to all individuals and family systems. We've all had our share of experiences in which we've opened ourselves up to healthcare professionals only to leave feeling unheard and unseen. Dr. Gause works hard to connect on a basic human level, to "get it" when it comes to serving as a "quiet professional" and other critical aspects of SOF culture, and to break down stigma of behavioral health care. She has extensive experience in treating trauma-related disorders (e.g., PTSD) through evidence-based practices including Prolonged Exposure (PE) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), as well as other behavioral health conditions including, but not limited to: moral injury, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, adjustment disorders, substance use disorders, and more. Additional evidence-based therapies Dr. Gause uses in her practice include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), Imagery Rehearsal Therapy (IRT) for trauma-related nightmares, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Dr. Gause is committed to serving the SOF community with humility, compassion, understanding, and grace. While she has not walked in an operator or SOF spouse's shoes, she is honored to walk alongside them. Dr. Gause is licensed in the State of Minnesota and is authorized to practice telehealth nationally (in all PSYPACT eligible states) via the Authority to Practice Interjurisdictional Telepsychology (APIT) granted by the PSYPACT Commission (Mobility #:23443; Exp. date10/17/2026).
